Wear your boots & bring FOOD ITEMS for our LOCAL FOOD BANK, the truck will be parked at the entrance of Lions Park, opposite side of the Fire Engine. Drop off a bag of non-perishable food items and receive a ticket for our drawing to win the special $100.00 EASTER BASKET. Drawing will take place at 1:05 pm, so go back to check your ticket number before leaving.Participants should arrive at 12:30 pm - if you get there at 1 pm, you’re late. The hunt is over in a flash as the children typically find every egg within 10 minutes.

Deadline Nears For Alaskans Seeking Affordable Housing In Anchorage

Anchorage Alaska, March 22, 2018 – Midnight, March 31, 2018 is the deadline to submit an application with Alaska Housing Finance Corporation for the Housing Choice Voucher program in Anchorage. The program provides rental support for low-income Alaskans to obtain housing provided by landlords in the private sector. A lottery will determine participant placement.

Loussac Library Accessible Vote Center Opens Early

The Municipal Clerk’s Office announces the Loussac Library Accessible Vote Center (AVC) is open for voting. The Loussac AVC Election Officials were in training yesterday and based on the success of the training, are prepared to provide voter services earlier than anticipated. It is the first of the five AVCs to open; the remaining four AVCs open on Monday, March 26, 2018. AVC hours and locations may be found at muni.org/elections/AVC.The Loussac AVC is open today until 6:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 25 from Noon to 5:00 p.m.

Alaska Professional Communicators: Alaska Press Women Memorial Scholarship

What is the Alaska Press Women Memorial Scholarship? In 1981, Alaska Professional Communicators decided we wanted to do something to help people in Alaska pursue education in our field. The scholarship is presented in memory of the many Alaska Press Women members who have passed on and left their mark. Betzi Woodman, Kay Kennedy, Phyllis Carlson, Jimmy Bedford, Chris McClain, Jo Ann Wold, Natalie Gottstein, Elizabeth Plank, Suzan Nightingale, John Killoran, Bea Rose and Nancy Cain Schmidt.The scholarship is given in May, so that students can plan on the money for the fall semester. There are two $1,000 awards.

Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center

The Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center in Girdwood AK has issued a Special Avalanche Bulletin. Dangerous avalanche conditions will exist through the weekend due to 2-4 feet of snow sitting on an unstable base. Large human triggered avalanches have occurred every day this week and are likely through the weekend on all aspects and elevations. Natural avalanche activity will increase in the afternoons with daily warming and/or sun.

Ballot Package Mail Out

The Municipal Clerk’s Office announces that approximately 198,000 ballot packages are being mailed out today, March 13, 2018 to qualified registered voters. Voters can anticipate receiving their ballot package in the mail by Monday, March 19, 2018.
