Celebrating Red Ribbon Week

Enrique (Kiki) Camarena was born on July 26, 1947 in Mexicali, Mexico. He graduated from Calexico High School in Calexico, Calif. in 1966. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines where he served for two years. Following his military service, Kiki joined the Calexico Police Department and later moved to the El Centro Police Department.

New Way for Local Veterans to Serve

Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions Invites Local Veterans to join the Alaska Veterans Centennial Lions Club. Sleeping Lady Mountain Lions is offering local U.S. veterans a special opportunity to serve their community. The Involve a U.S. Veteran program is a nationwide initiative sponsored by Lions Clubs International that offers qualified U.S. veterans an entrance fee waiver of up to $30 when joining a local Lions club. The waiver is available to the first 5,000 U.S. veterans, and the program runs through June 30, 2018.

Kitten Foster Program Open House

Anchorage Animal Care and Control (AACC) is hosting their first Kitten Foster Program Open House on Saturday, October 21, from 1 – 3 pm. Guests will meet two very special cats: Linus, fostered and adopted by AACC’s Kennel Supervisor and now AACC’s Spokescat; and Blessing, fostered, raised, and adopted by a foster “Super Mom” from the time he was only a few hours old. A current foster kitten will also be at the event.
