Filing for office begins at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2019 for the April 3, 2018 Regular Municipal Election. Candidate filing forms are available at muni.org/elections.

The Anchorage Municipal Clerk’s Office announces mailing of the Address Verification Postcard

The Anchorage Municipal Clerk’s Office announces mailing of the Address Verification Postcard to 208,000 qualified registered voters in the municipality. Anchorage voters should receive their postcard delivered by the United States Postal Service this week. The Postcard requests voters to review their current mailing address information, which is listed on the mailer. Current information helps make sure a voter will receive their ballot package at the correct mailing address.

Alaska Zoo sadly announces death of beloved polar bear Ahpun

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The Alaska Zoo’s female polar bear Ahpun passed away on Dec. 31, 2017. Originally arriving at the Alaska Zoo in March 1998 as a 31-pound cub after she was orphaned outside of Point Lay, Alaska, Ahpun lived to be 20 years old and grew to just over 700 pounds. The average lifespan for a polar bear in the wild is 15 to 18 years.

The L.L.Bean U.S. Cross Country Championships begin January 3

ANCHORAGE, AK – The top cross-country skiers from across Alaska and America will compete for more than prestigious national titles in the 2018 L.L.Bean U.S. Cross Country Championships, which begin Wednesday, January 3, and continue through Monday, January 8, at Kincaid Park. The races will also be used as part of the selection process for Olympic berths as well as to determine roster spots on the FIS Junior World Championship, U23 Championship and U18 Scandinavian Cup teams.The competitions will feature two freestyle and two classic events for men and women. The top American in each race will be crowned national champion. While primary selection for the 2018 Olympic Cross Country Team will come from World Cup races, some final spots can be determined from Nationals results. Olympic team nominations will be announced the week of January 23.

The Anchorage Municipal Clerk’s Office is accepting requests for community presentations about how Vote by Mail will work in the April 3, 2018, Regular Municipal Election

The Municipality of Anchorage is excited to help Anchorage voters understand Vote by Mail. The Clerk’s Office has trained members of its Stakeholders Group to give community presentations about Vote by Mail. Funding announced for communities looking to increase affordable housing

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, December 28, 2017 - Nearly 2,400 Alaskans sought emergency shelter between July and September 2017, according to information collected from homeless providers and reported through the Alaska Homeless Information System. Many of those would benefit from a supportive development that combines safe housing with services which address individual mental health or chronic illnesses. To meet this need, Alaska Housing Financing Corporation announces a competitive grant to fund supportive housing for people experiencing homelessness and with disabilities.
