Letter to Parents from the Anchorage School District: 13 Reasons Why

In light of the recent release of the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, Season 2, questions from staff, families and community members have been raised. The intense, graphic portrayal of difficult issues involving youth present both the risk of triggering harmful behaviors among some vulnerable youth and the opportunity for adults to engage in meaningful and supportive discussions with youth about these issues.

Purple Up!

Purple Up! The Eagle River Boys & Girls Club celebrated Month of the Military Child on Thursday, April 26th. Community organizations gathered together to show their support for the 1st Annual Eagle River Boys & Girls Club Purple Up Day.  The event began the celebration with the Eagle River AFJROTC Color Guard. All of the youth and guests stood proudly with their hand over their hearts and sang the National Anthem.

Friends of Nike Site Summit announces 2018 tour dates

Friends of Nike Site Summit (FONSS) invites the public to tour historic Site Summit in Arctic Valley this summer. The tour dates are: a dinner/tour fundraiser the evening of Wednesday, June 20; a hiking tour limited to 20 people on Saturday, July 21; and morning and afternoon tours on Sunday, Aug. 5 and Saturday Aug. 18. Bus seats on the Aug. 5 and Aug. 18 afternoon tours are extremely limited due to advance registrations, but the other tours have ample room for more participants.

From the team who brought you “Moose the Movie”, we are proud to announce the upcoming World Wide Premiere and release of “Sudsy Slim Rides Again”. This full feature film is a spaghetti Northwestern comedy, action, heist film about the tale of a small Alaskan town by the name of Scratcher Pass. Unfortunately, Scratcher Pass’ boom days as the world’s largest asbestos mining operation have long since faded.

University of Alaska to award scholarship to an aspiring teacher

FAIRBANKS, Alaska—The University of Alaska is now accepting applications for the President’s Teach for Alaska Scholarship. The scholarship is in its second year and is open to any incoming undergraduate student who plans to major in education at any University of Alaska campus.

Lions Annual Easter Egg Hunt & Food Drive

Wear your boots & bring FOOD ITEMS for our LOCAL FOOD BANK, the truck will be parked at the entrance of Lions Park, opposite side of the Fire Engine. Drop off a bag of non-perishable food items and receive a ticket for our drawing to win the special $100.00 EASTER BASKET. Drawing will take place at 1:05 pm, so go back to check your ticket number before leaving. Participants should arrive at 12:30 pm - if you get there at 1 pm, you’re late. The hunt is over in a flash as the children typically find every egg within 10 minutes.
