When you first walk into Strong Aesthetics and Kelly Strong greets you with her beautiful smile in her equally beautiful studio, your first thought likely won’t be that she is a Curriculum Development Specialist. But that was Kelly’s other career before she embarked on this new venture. Today, she owns a charmingly lit, retro-glam feeling studio that invites you in to be pampered.
Around 2001, in preparation for her wedding, Kelly went to get a facial. For her, and many others, she had always thought of spas as somewhere you go when you’re on vacation. She wondered how people could work in that field as their “real job.” While talking with the esthetician, she realized something important to her life and future: making people feel beautiful was something that she wanted to do. Although she had come to that realization, she wasn’t ready to go down the path to get there just yet. It wasn’t until Kelly was well into her career with the school district and their family had moved to Eagle River, that she was ready to embark on her dream job.
Kelly began testing out the waters by working out of other studios first. But soon she realized that she preferred to be her own boss. In her own studio, she could be flexible with her schedule, which is why she works by appointment only. Seven years after the opening of Strong Aesthetics, Kelly has more than proved to herself that being an esthetician can, indeed, be a “real job”.
You may be wondering, “what is an esthetician?”
I suppose I could have started with that. An esthetician is someone who specializes in skincare. Kelly applies her knowledge of the skin’s anatomy, as well as how different skin types react to certain chemicals in skincare products. She has been personally trained by the top three “wax queens” in the esthetics industry. At her studio, she provides facials, waxing, and lash-lifts with tint. Kelly doesn’t just pamper your skin, she provides quality products to help maintain healthy, glowing skin. She carries the Tu’el line, an all-natural, all-botanical cleansing oil system, Osmosis products – which are oncology approved, and self-tanners.
At Strong Aesthetics, it is important to Kelly that she stays educated and up-to-date on all of the current trends in skincare. She is diligent in continuing her education but also wants to emphasize the importance of self-care to her customers. After years of working in the industry, Kelly has found that even when women come in for an appointment out of necessity, they often feel guilty about taking time to care for themselves. This is especially the case when it comes to facials, which are often seen as a luxury. Strong Aesthetics wants to remove that guilt and remind you that self-care is not selfish. If you’re not taking care of your skin (the first thing people notice about you), nobody else will do it for you.
