Marketplace Spotlight: Melony Buckmeyer – Mary Kay

The first thing I think of when someone says “Mary Kay” is “pink car.”

But as Melony Buckmeier shared with me, the company has really evolved since its founding in 1963 as one of the first direct sales companies. In that time, Mary Kay offered an environment for women that was hard to find anywhere else. With the ability for women to stay at home with their children, make money, and advance in the ranks as high as they could set their mind, it’s easy to see why the company was so attractive.

When Melony Buckmeier was first introduced to Mary Kay, she was a single mom and wanted to be able to stay at home with her children instead of spending all of her income on childcare. Ten years later, Mary Kay still fits her lifestyle and allows her to teach part-time at Birchwood Christian School.

Having not started wearing makeup until her senior year of high school, Melony never considered herself a “girly girl,” but Mary Kay’s skincare line piqued her interest.

When Melony does home parties, she focuses on the skincare line, believing that good skin care should come before makeup. Home parties allow women and girls of all ages to try the products before buying – no more spending money on a product that won’t match your skin tone or a cleanser that will react to your skin adversely. Melony also specializes in doing parties for teenagers to help them learn the proper way to apply makeup and to keep up with the newest trends. Makeover parties, spa parties – all are a great way to have a girls’ night out and make new friends.

True to her Alaskan roots, Melony’s favorite product is TimeWise® Moisturizer – perfect for our dry winters.

Melony loves to build relationships with her customers, and her spirit of serving others shows in her current project of building a studio at her home where other direct sales vendors can come and hold open houses together. She is proud to be able to offer a line of products that are both good quality and affordable.

While Melony loves what she does, she wants to remind us that we are all already beautiful, and makeup merely enhances that.

If you would like to check out what Mary Kay has to offer or contact Melony for your own party, you can visit her website at www.marykay.com/melonybrown.
