PALMER, AK – The Mat-Su Miners (14-8) defeated the Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks (6-16) Monday night on a walk-off wild pitch in the bottom of the twelfth inning.
J Paul Fullerton and Pate Fullerton produced the offense for the Chinooks five hits and three runs.
J Paul Fullerton hit a double off the left-field wall in his first at-bat, but would not score in the first inning. Pate Fullerton would draw a walk in the third inning and score on a fielder’s choice RBI from his brother to push the Chinooks to within a run.
The Chinooks would tie the game at two in the fifth inning after Pate Fullerton singled to leftfield, stole second base, and was brought in on a two-out RBI single by J Paul Fullerton.
For the Chinooks final run, Haden Keller would hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield to plate Pate Fullerton for the third run.
Zach Sundine (1-2) picked up a no decision in his fifth start for the Chinooks. He allowed two of three earned runs on five hits, two walks, and a strikeout in his six and a third innings on the mound.
Tyler O’Clair (1-2) and Corbin Barker (0-2) would relieve the next four and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball with two walks and five strikeouts collected. Brian Cardone (0-2) picked up his second loss of the season after allowing the winning run to score on a walk-off wild pitch. He gave up one run on one hit and a strikeout in a third of an inning.
The Chinooks are back in action on July 2 and 3 against the Anchorage Glacier Pilots at Mulcahy Stadium beginning at 7:10 p.m.
