CHUGIAK, AK – The Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks (1-4) were bested by the Miners (3-3) in a 12-4 loss for the final game of the four-game home stretch.
Tyler O’Clair (0-1) picked up the loss in his first start as a Chinook. He threw three full innings and allowed six runs on four hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.
Joey Leavitt (0-0) relieved O’Clair in the fourth inning and gave up three runs, one earned, on four hits, one walk, and two strikeouts in his two innings on the hill. Michael Barker (0-0) would pitch the sixth inning and give up three runs on three hits.
For the final three innings of the game, Brian Cardone (0-0) and Daniel Freeman (0-1) would put up a scoreless outing on the mound, allowing only one hit-by-pitch in their nine outs.
Offensively, the Chinooks plated their only four runs between the third through fifth innings. In the third inning, Joe Brazil led off with a walk and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. He then stole third and was driven in on a line drive single from Jess Davis.
In the fourth inning, the Chinooks added another run off of Haden Keller’s leadoff single, before Keller was brought home on an RBI double from J Paul Fullerton down the right field line.
The final two runs were scored in the fifth inning. Jess Davis led off with a single before moving over to third base on a one-out double by Brandon Cody. Haden Keller hit a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to pick up the third run, before Daniel Freeman hit an RBI single to left field for the fourth and final run.

The Chinooks travel down to Kenai to face the Peninsula Oilers for six games in the next five days, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. game tomorrow night.
