CHUGIAK – The Chinooks lost a hard fought game 3-1 against the Glacier Pilots in the 14-inning contest.
The Pilots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, but four innings later the Chinooks would tie the game on a Jake Collins groundball error from the third baseman, that plated Ethan English who led off the inning with a single.
For the bulk of the game, it was a pitching duel. In the 10th inning, Paddy McKermitt drew a one-out walk and stole second to put himself in scoring position. Unfortunately, the Chinooks were unable to plate McKermitt, and more extra innings ensued.
In the bottom of the 13th inning, Ethan English and Daniel Freeman hit back-to-back singles to reach scoring position. With two outs, Haden Keller laced a line drive to left field, but a leaping catch by the leftfielder saved the walk-off win and sent the game to the final inning of play.
The Pilots came to life in the 14th inning, plating two runs on three hits to ultimately win the game 3-1.
- Brandon Cody, Ethan English, Mason Corbett and Daniel Freeman have all hit safely in the first two games of the season.
- The Chinook offense is averaging 10 hits per game.
- The Chinook defense turned four double plays in the game.
The Chinooks have two off-days and will play next on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against the Anchorage Bucs.
