ANCHORAGE – The Municipality of Anchorage’s (MOA) Public Transportation Department (PTD) is offering free rides on People Mover and AnchorRIDES to federal government employees for the duration of the government shutdown.
“As Alaskans, we know how to take care of ourselves and each other,” said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz. “During a time when federal employees are paying a price for the federal shutdown, we hope offering free transportation might help make things a little easier.”
Effective immediately, government employees will be able to ride People Mover for free, simply by showing their government ID. When scheduling an AnchorRIDES trip, government employees should identify themselves at the time of scheduling and show their government ID at pickup.
“We work every day to connect people to the community,” said Jamie Acton, PTD Director. “We’re proud to offer what help we can during this time when government workers may need a little extra assistance getting around the city.”
First time and existing riders can plan their trip using Google Maps by selecting transit as their mode choice when getting directions. Bus stop arrival information is also available by texting the bus stop number to 312-2060. For all other information regarding how to ride the bus, riders can call the Ride Line at 343-6543.
