Most everyone who is familiar with direct sales knows that if you want to save money on your favorite products, hosting a party is the way to go.
Back in the day, when direct sales first hit the scene, hosting a party meant cleaning your house from top to bottom, handwriting out invitations, planning and prepping snacks for all of your friends. But times have changed and so has direct sales.
Most companies offer several different ways to host a party. There’s the old stand-by of an in-home demonstration. Even this option can be updated to match your personality and keep things exciting. Instead of sitting there watching the consultant talk about products, ask about a hands-on approach where you can interact with the products and test them out. Lots of companies also offer themed parties. Having a jewelry party? How about a Sips & Sparkles theme? Is your favorite nail rep doing a party for you? A beach theme would be great to show off that new pedicure! The theme doesn’t even have to have anything to do with the product for it to be fun. Have everyone bring their bottle of wine and have a tasting contest while everyone shops.
The “home” party doesn’t have to be in your home either.
You can bring the party to the sidelines of the next Pop Warner game, meet up with some other moms at the playground. Office parties are such a fun addition to the long work day. Your consultant may be able to come by your office and set things up in the break room at lunch for your coworkers to be able to get in on the fun. If you’re a teacher and never seem to have time for lunch, a quick party in the teachers’ lounge at the end of the school day is a much-needed chance to socialize and shop. Being in Alaska, we can’t forget the campground! Whether you’re a tent camper or a “glamper” in that shiny thirty-foot RV, many parties can be adapted to some outdoor fun. Which makes me think of another theme: Boots & Bling!
We can’t forget the catalog or “book” party. Passing the company’s catalog around to friends and family so they can peruse and find the products that are just right for them. More recently this has morphed into the newly popular virtual party. A virtual party can be as simple as an ordering link shared with your friends and family, to a Facebook event with fun information, prizes and videos, to a full-on live experience with the consultant through Facebook Live, Skype or FaceTime – these are so much fun! You get the opportunity to earn host rewards while sitting in your jammies, but you still get real “face time” with your consultant for that extra personal touch.
