JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska — The Alaska Army National Guardsmen of the 208th Construction Management Team, 297th Regional Support Group, were recognized for their upcoming deployment to U.S. Army Central Command Area of Responsibility with an activation ceremony, directly following a change of command ceremony Sept. 9.
The 208th Construction Management Team will be supporting troops who are already deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom, Spartan Shield.
During the change of command portion of the ceremony, the outgoing commander, Capt. Jennifer Nutt, said a few words in recognition of her time in the unit, as well as wishing them well on their upcoming deployment.
Following Nutt’s remarks, the incoming commander, Lt. Col. Mark Kelliher, also spoke in regards to the upcoming deployment.
The activation portion of the ceremony followed, with a casing of the unit’s colors in preparation for the unit’s nine-month deployment.
Col. Peter Mondelli, commander of the 297th Regional Support Group, said that the unit was given short notice for the deployment and has been very flexible and worked very hard in their preparation.
