We are all looking forward to the garden my mom will start to plant in a couple weeks.
She usually plants kale, potatoes, beets, lettuce, currents, tomatoes, broccoli, rhubarb, and peas. With what she grows, she makes currant jam, rhubarb jam, and I will make mashed potatoes.
A couple years ago we got eight chickens. We kept them in their pen in the winter, but in the summer we let them out around the yard. At the time we didn’t have a fence around the garden, so the chickens would get into the garden and eat the food from the garden.
We hoped they would stay out but they didn’t and it was annoying. My mom would get so mad at them. She would chase them out of the garden, shaking her fist and angrily yelling,“Chickens!”
None of it helped. That year, the chickens ate all of my mom’s garden. It took us two years to finally get a fence that kept them out.
