Jalapenos vs. Homestead
On Tuesday, 3-27-18, AAA powerhouse Jalapenos rode their 1st seed mystique into the ERHL finals when they swept 4th seed Homestead 4-2, out of the playoffs Tuesday night at the MAC. Jalapenos clinched the series matchup 2-0 in the best-of-three series. The first period action was a full-speed rush from both sides with post-season play on the line. Dylan Kingrea scored first for Jalapenos early in the opening period, going unassisted, with a high right shot from the left side. On a power-play (interference) at 13:05, Homestead’s Powell Gallagher answered back with some quick stick work in the crease, assisted by Jesse Johnson to tie it up 1-1. Jon Garner scored off a deflection late in the first unassisted, to put Homestead up 2-1. Brian Swanson opened up the second period scoring effort going solo on a Jalapeno power play. Swanson found some slack water across the crease, and set the backhand for the 2-2 tie. In the final period, Swanson bagged his second goal, assisted by Josh Spurgeon with 6:24 remaining. Spurgeon notched a 4-2 insurance goal on the board for Jalapenos, scoring on Homestead’s open net with :17 left on the clock. Seth Kollman had 29 stops in the net for Jalapenos. Adam Vogel made 14 saves for Homestead who finished the season 6-16-4. Jalapenos (20-3-3) is back on the ice Friday, March 30, for game one of the AAA final, facing the other series winner Garcias who are riding high off a 2-0 Pizza Man sweep as well.
