Jalapenos vs. Homestead
On Monday, 3-26-18, the AAA ERHL playoffs kicked-off at the MAC where 1st seed Jalapenos defeated 4th seed Homestead Lounge 6-3 in their first game of a best-of-three game series. In the opening period, Jalapenos controlled the tempo on both sides of the pond with a commanding 3-0 lead. Inside the crease, Carl Hanson, backed up by Billy Bagron, augured in the first score for Jalapenos at 9:55. Seth Kollaman, assisted by Brian Swanson, found the 5-hole from the left of the crease for the 2-0 Jalapeno lead at 4:50. Kenny Hood finished out the first period rout going high right on the net, for the 3-0 score, assisted by Pete McEnaney. In the second period, Homestead started to gain some traction, taking their turn at the controls with two unanswered goals. Steve Ludwig, assisted by Jesse Johnson, had a jumbo-tron shot from the right side, going high right on the cage to put Homestead on the board 3-1. Homestead’s Jake Wilkins went unassisted down the middle of the crease to cut the deficit 3-2. With just :40 remaining in the second, Kollman and Hood broke up the Homestead rally, with Kollman’s goal, increasing Jalapenos margin 4-2. In the third period, Homestead answered back when Powell Gallagher sent a laser assist from the right circle, across the ice to Greg Gallagher who ripped the high left of the cage, cutting the score to 4-3. Jalapenos got back up to cruising speed when Eric Jensen scored unassisted at 8:23. Brandon Spoerhase, assisted by Ian Whitmore, capitalized on a Jalapeno power play at 4:38 for the final 6-3 score. Buck Wicks had 17 stops on 20 shots in the net for Jalapenos. Adam Vogel recorded 18 saves on 24 shots for the Homesteaders. Jalapenos leads the series 1-0.
