It’s WEEK TWENTY-Three of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AA recap.
Stellar vs. Shines
On Sunday, 3-11-18, Shines (14-8-1) defeated Stellar (5-15-3) in the first game of the evening at the MAC. Shines scored three unanswered goals in the first period, setting an early tone for their 5-1 curtain-call win. Nicholas Bennett led Shines offensive effort with a hat-trick and a helper. Tyler Vatz put one on the board for Shines at 14:54 in the first period with Charles Bahn and Bennett on the assist. Bennett followed up with two back-to-back goals, assisted by Russell Miller, and unassisted on the second put-in, giving Shines a 3-0 lead. Stellar scored their lone goal off John Blodgett assisted by Mike Farmer at 14:20 in the second. Jason Allen teamed up with Miller for another game stopper at 11:52 in the second, 4-1 Shines. Off a power play at 16:05 in the third, Bennett locked down his-hat trick with Ryan Williams and Lukas Takao on the assist. Winning goalie Neff Anastasio had 21 saves off 22 shots in the net. Stellar’s Chris Harrington finished the night with 13 saves on 18 shots.
Play It Again Sports vs. Cubs Painting
It was a 3-0 shutout win for PIAS vs Cubs in the middle match of the evening. Tim Plucinski opened up the scoring effort at 6:30 in the first, assisted by Todd Blackley and Samuel Pelant. Scott Zelasko connected with Pelant at 2:03 remaining in the first, for the 2-0 lead. PIAS Rob Sackerson packed in the final puck with the help of Eugene Tapley and Paul Johnson at 1:20 remaining in the second. Goaltender Tony Boneta had all the right stops for PIAS (7-14-2), recording 28 fist-bumps on the night. Cubs (11-7-5) goalie Michael Stevenson had 24 saves off 27 shots.
OMR Brewing vs. ER Alehouse
In the late-late game, ER Alehouse had a 3-2 victory over OMR, bolstering its tenuous AA first-place lead (13-7-3), with Shines (14-8-1) standing at the gates with just one week left in regular-season play. Chad Lammers scored the opener for Alehouse at 6:13 in the first assisted by Steve Truesdell and Garrett Riley. Matt Crosbie put Alehouse up 2-0 in the second assisted by Robert Webb and Riley. Jason Novotny notched OMR (10-9-4) on the board at 5:17 in the second with David Roch and Rob Zemick as wingmen. Alehouse closed out the second period when Crosbie and Lammers (assist) giddy-upped for the 3-1 lead. Opening up the third period, Roch, assisted by Rob Zemcik and Navotny, put OMR within one, but Alehouse already had the bus warmed up. Winning goalie Mike Allen recorded 16 saves on 18 shots. OMR’s Jon Maroney had a busy night, making 39 saves on 42 shots.
