Cubs vs. OMR
In the AA consolation game, Cubs brought home victory, defeating OMR 3-2 in a friendly faceoff which eventually snowballed into an over-time thriller. As the Cubbies and OMR faced-off for the opening puck drop, respective goalies Patrick Zmuda and Jon Maroney attempted their luck at center ice. The refs thought otherwise of the fun, and opted to keep some structure to the 12thgame of the AA tournament. On to the offense, Zach Meehan had a playoff hat trick and the game-winning-goal for Alehouse.  Starting the scoring in first period play was Matthew St. Pierre assisted by Rob Zemcik, putting OMR up 1-0 at 13:18 into the opener.  Meehan got his first goal at 8:13 in the second period, taking the feeder from Greg Jernstrom, to tie it up 1-1. Meehan put Alehouse up 2-1, scoring his second goal assisted by Brian Emerton at 3:18 in the second period. A delay of game penalty on Cubs’ Garret Staudinger set OMR’s Alfonzo Guzman up for a penalty shot.  Guzman closed on the crease and delivered the goods with some shake and bake on the 2-2 equalizer. AAA scouts surely took note of Guzman’s hustle these playoffs as he was always in the action at every end of the pond. With the score remaining tied at the end of three and a no-outcome overtime, the stage was set for a shootout. Meehan rallied to the occasion, scoring the final 3-2 Cub’s game-winning-goal on what was probably the longest match of the season. ERHL historians will have plenty of future material to reference from this instant classic.
