Shines vs. PIAS
Shines continued their AA playoff dominance, with a commanding 4-1 win over Play It Again in Game 6. Shine’s Angela Sonnier, Nicholas Bennett and Lucas Takao provided all the necessary offense for the league leading win. In the opening minutes of the first, Sonnier scored 1-0 off a poke-check gone bad in front of the PIA net. Sonnier maintained control and delivered the goods with the help of Takao on the assist. Later in the first, Bennett crushed a rocket from the neutral zone, the assist coming from Takao on the face-off win, to put Shines up 2-0. Both teams were held scoreless through the second period. Robb Harbison put PIAs on the board at 15:51 in the third period, when he buried the puck for the 2-1 goal. Bennett struck again for Shines at the 13:31 mark, when he wheeled it across the crease unassisted and let loose a nice backhand for the spicey 3-1 goal. That game stopper was Bennett’s division leading 5th goal of the AA playoffs. In perhaps the most prolific play of the night, Sonnier wrapped up Shine’s 4-1 scoring rout when she took the puck coast-to-coast down the right side, feigning left in the crease then dumping the biscuit, top right shelf, unassisted. Shines goalie Neff Anastasio recorded 17 stops on the night while PIA stopper Tony Boneta had 14 saves. Shines won the circle skirmish, out digging PIA 20-15 on face-offs.
