ANCHORAGE, Alaska—Today, GCI announced the recipients of its 2018 philanthropy campaign – 12 nonprofit organizations that work to improve the lives of Alaskans across the state.
A different Alaska nonprofit will be featured each month.“There are so many nonprofits in Alaska doing all kinds of incredible work,” said Senior Vice President, Consumer Services Paul Landes.
“As a company with Alaska roots and a growing nationwide market, GCI support nonprofits that are making a positive difference in the communities where our customers and employees live.”
GCI will donate $15,000 in cash and services to 12 different Alaska nonprofits and the Alaska affiliates of national nonprofits. The $180,000 value is intended to raise awareness about worthy causes and to encourage others in the community to give.
GCI’s 2018 monthly nonprofit partners are:
- The Salvation Army
- The American Cancer Society
- American Heart Association
- American Red Cross of Alaska
- Alaska SeaLife Center
- Camp Fire
- Special Olympics
- Covenant House
- GCI Suicide Prevention Grant recipients through the Alaska Community Foundation
- Making Strides for Breast Cancer
- Food Bank of Alaska
“Many Alaskans are feeling the impact of the state recession, and that means that a lot of everyday donors may find themselves tightening the purse strings,” said Landes. “This is a very important time for businesses to support the mission of nonprofits so they can fulfill their missions in local communities.”
To help emphasize the importance of giving back to the community, GCI today unveiled a new corporate giving website, www.gci.com/gci-gives, to help organizations more easily apply for GCI support.
The website will feature GCI’s nonprofit partners and the positive results of charitable contributions and volunteerism in the communities where GCI employees and customers live. Amanda Prasil, GCI Contributions senior manager, will spearhead the GCI Gives program.
