It’s WEEK NINETEEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AA recap.
OMR Brewing vs. Shines Sushi
On 2-11-18 the six teams AA division of the ERHL competed at the MAC in week 19 of the season. In the first game of the evening the third and fourth place teams battled it out to a 3-3 tie. David Roch for OMR and Nicholas Bennett for Shines were the go to players. OMR got things going in the first period with a goal from Michael Filarski. The teams traded goals in the second. With help from Doug Keller, Bennett netted his first goal to tie the game 1-1. Before the period ended, Roch got his first goal of the game with the helper credited to Filarski to make it 2-1. To start off the third, it was looking good for the brewery boys. Roch found the back of the net to make it 3-1. But, Shines Bennett wasn’t done yet. He scored unassisted at 10:42 to bring it to within one goal. As the period was drawing to a close, Tim Kelly fed Bennett the puck and he buried it to tie the game and get a hat trick in the process. Goalies for the game, John Maroney for OMR made 17 saves and Buck Wicks for Shines made 23. Fourth place OMR with 18 points is chasing third place Shines with 23.
Cub’s Painting vs. ER Alehouse
The first and second place teams took to the ice in the second game of the night. The Cubbies in first with 27 points took on second place Alehouse with 23. Much like the first game, this game ended in a tie, 2-2. Alehouse started off strong, with an unassisted goal right after the drop of the puck by Ryan Weaver. Mid-way through the first, Dan Watts with the helper credited to Weaver made it 2-0. The Cubbies got on the board in the second with a goal from James Koska with the assist going to Zach Meehan. Going into the third period, Meehan tied the game with help from Nate Curnow. The Cubbies netminder, Patrick Zmuda made 11 saves in the game and for the Alehouse, Mike Allan made 21. The referees for the contest didn’t call any penalties on either team.
Play It Again Sports vs. Stellar Designs
In the final game of the evening, sixth place Stellar (9 pts) gained two points in the standings on fifth place Play It Again (14 pts) by a shutout, 5-0. Five different players scored in all three periods for the boys from Stellar. David Kosinsky lead off the scoring spree in the first period. In the second, with :06 remaining, Steve Glines found the back of the net. In the third, Todd Dudinsky, Blasé Andromeda-Focht and Kevin Blanchette all scored. Stellar’s goalie, Chris Harrington is credited with the shut-out win making 13 saves. Tony Boneta for PIAS also made 13 saves on 18 shots.
