Eagle River Hockey League: AA Week Eighteen
It’s WEEK EIGHTEEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AA recap.
Eagle River Alehouse vs. OMR Brewing
The Eagle River Hockey League AA division entered week 18 on Sunday, 2-4-18. Three games were played at the MAC starting with a 3-6 win for OMR over ER Alehouse. Karl Greninger with help from Matt Crosbie started off the scoring for the boys from the Alehouse. The first period ended 1-0. OMR’s Michael Tencza tied the game 1-1 to lead off the second period. Alehouse took the lead when Greninger nailed his second goal of the game. As the second was winding down, OMR’s Alfonzo Guzman tied the game 2-2 with his goal. The third started off well for the Alehouse when Alan Skaggs got the go-ahead goal. But, that’s all there would be for the Alehouse as OMR pumped in four unanswered goals. First, by Jason Novotny. Then, Tencza netted his second goal of the contest followed by David Roch and Stanley Shepard. The game saw seven penalties, four on OMR and three for Alehouse. Currently, the Alehouse (10-6-2) sits in second place in the six-team division and OMR (7-8-3) in fourth.
Shines Sushi vs. Stellar Designs
In game two, Shines outlasted Stellar and won 2-1. After two uneventful periods, the third made all the difference. Midway through the final frame, Shines’ Charles Bahn broke through and made the score 1-0. A minute later, Stellar’s Kevin Blanchette answered that goal, knotting it all up 1-1. As time was winding down, Shines’ Doug Keller got the game winner unassisted at 3:08. With the win, Shines caught up to the ER Alehouse and both teams now have 22 points. Officially, Shines is in third place with a record of 11-7-0 and Stellar is in last place with a record of 2-13-3.
Cub’s Painting vs. Play It Again Sports
In the last game of the evening, the Cubbies shutout Play It Again Sports 3-0. The Cubs Nate Curnow was the man of the hour. He scored and assisted on the other two goals. In the first period, with only :30 ticks remaining, Nate Curnow fed the puck to Jordan Shannon who found the back of the net. In the second, Garret Staudinger scored with the assist again going to Curnow. Finally, in the third with 3:08 left in the game, Curnow scored the final goal of the game. Goaltender Patrick Zmuda is credited with the shutout win. The Cubbies remain solidly in first place with a record of 11-3-4 and PIAS is in fifth place with a record of 6-10-2.
