
It’s WEEK SIXTEEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AAA recap.
Garcia’s vs. Jalapenos
All three periods saw goals from Jalapenos in the early game at the MAC on 1-17-18. Two power play goals, a short-handed goal and one at regular strength reinforced why Jalapeno’s is in first place in the AAA division. Bill Bagron scored two the four goals for Jalapeno’s and Jason Elledge netted the other two. Bagron assisted on both of Elledge’s goals. Former Alaska Ace, Matt Guerts was added to the Garcia’s roster. He tallied a goal and an assist. The other Garcia’s goal came from Blake Brazil. It wasn’t enough as Jalapeno’s went on to defeat last place Garcia’s 4-2. Goaltender Seth Kollman was credited with the win, stopping 19 of 21 shots. Kolby Hanson from Garcia’s made 14 saves on 18 shots.
Pizza Man vs. Homesteaders
In the late game on Wednesday, #2 Pizza man and #3 Homestead battled to a 5-5 tie. The high scoring game was played without any penalties. The teams traded goals in the first period. Ryan Bowdish started things off for the Homesteaders. Then Michael McCurtain scored for Pizza Man. Back to Homesteads, when Trevor Sapp scored and as time was winding down, Pizza Man’s Max Daughtery tied the game 2-2. The combination of Michael Viens and Sam Cehula was clicking for Homesteads. Viens scored the two second periods goals with Cehula’s help. It was all Pizza Man in the third. Daughtery netted his second goal of the game and Brandon Hall scored twice, which tied the game at five goals apiece. For the netminders, Pizza Man’s Gary Hanson made 21 saves on 26 shots and Homestead’s Adam Vogel made 20 saves on 25 shots.
