It’s WEEK SEVENTEEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AAA recap.
Homesteaders vs. Jalapenos
On Wednesday night, 1-24-18, the AAA division of the ERHL had two games. The early game featured 3rd place Homestead vs. 1st place Jalapenos. The two teams traded goals in the first period. Pete McEnaney lead off the scoring for Jalapenos and Homestead’s Greg Gallagher followed up, ending the first period 1-1. Jalapenos turned up the heat in the second, scoring three unanswered goals. Two minutes after the drop of the puck, Carl Hanson got a goal. Followed by Ben Russell and Evan Kingrea making the score 4-1. As the game was winding down, Andre Wright with some help from McEnaney netted the last goal making the final score 5-1, Jalapenos. Goaltender Buck Wicks, is credited with the win, making 15 saves on 16 shots. Homestead’s netminder, Adam Vogel made 16 saves on 21 shots. Each team was whistled for one penalty each.
Pizza Man vs. Garcia’s
According to ERHL president, Reid McDonald, Garcia’s had to forfeit its game against Pizza Man due to not having enough rostered players to play. The teams did cobble together enough players, some from the previous game, to play an unofficial game which was officiated by referees. Pizza Man remains in 2nd place with 20 points with a record of 9-6-2. Garcia’s is in last place of the four team AAA division with 6 points with a record of 2-13-2.

In the late game, Garcia’s made a strong comeback in the third period to defeat Pizza Man 3-2. Pizza Man got off to a good start, Brett Siegal scored the only goal unassisted in the first period. The second period was equally as good when Siegal scored again with help from Brandon Hall, ending the period 2-0. It was all Garcia’s in the third. Right from the get go, Dan Lang got things going with a goal at 15:00. With Pizza Man’s Mike Casey in the penalty box for holding, Kevin Kean took advantage of the penalty and netted a power play goal at 6:44 to tie the game, 2-2. At 6:08, Seth Kollman netted the game winner with help from Lang making the final score 3-2. Joey Lindquist was in net for Garcia’s and made 17 saves on 19 shots and Murphy Quinn was in net for Pizza Man. Quinn made 19 stops on 22 shots.
