It’s WEEK FOURTEEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AAA recap.
Garcia’s vs Pizza Man
Three Penalties, one in each period didn’t help the boys from Garcia’s as they took on Pizza Man. For Pizza Man, Patrick Zmuda led the charge scoring both of the team’s goals to defeat Garcia’s 2-1. The first goal came shortly after the start of the game. Brett Siegal was credited with dishing the puck to Zmuda who scored at the 15:00 mark. Zmuda’s second goal and the game winner came in the second period when he scored unassisted. Avoiding a shutout, with 3:20 left to play, Garcia’s Chris Harrington found the back of the net after receiving the puck from Blake Brazil. Goalie Gary Hanson was credited with the win, making 18 saves for Pizza Man. Joey Lindquist, made 23 saves for Garcia’s. Pizza Man sits in second place in the four team AAA division with a record of 8-5-1 and Garcia’s is in last place with a record of 1-11-2.
Jalapenos vs. Homesteaders
The combination of Billy Bagron and Ben Russell seemed impossible to stop in the late game. The two Jalapeno players accounted for three of the five goals scored and assisted each other in the process. Bagron scored the two first period goals with the helpers credited to Russell. Next, Jalapeno’s combination of Dustin Smith and Kenny Hood netted goal number three for Jalapeno’s. Also in the second, Jalapeno’s Carl Hanson was sent to the box for hooking. That didn’t stop the Bagron/Russell duo. Bagron scored a shorthanded goal with :45 remaining in the period. For the fifth and final goal for Jalapeno’s, Russell assisted Smith’s second goal of the night. Homesteaders avoided a shutout when Greg Gallagher found the back of the net with an unassisted goal with 3:30 left to play. The final, Jalapenos 5 – Homesteaders 1. To add a little excitement in the first period, Jalapeno’s Jason Elledge was whistled for delay of game when he covered the puck with his hand in the crease. The Homesteaders took a penalty shot on Jalapeno’s netminder, Seth Kollman. Kollman, made the save along with 26 others for the win. Adam Vogal made 16 saves on 21 shots for the Homesteaders. Jalapenos remains in first place, 11-1-2 and Homesteaders in third, 4-7-3.
