Homesteaders vs. Garcia’s Cantina
It was a barnburner at the MAC on Wednesday 1-10-18 as 4th place Garcia’s (2-11-2) notched their second win of the season with a 5-4 victory over 3rd place Homestead. The teams traded goals in the first period. Garcia’s struck first when Ryan Ghan fed the puck to Dan Lien who scored at 4:58. Homestead tied the score at :48 with a goal from Adam Powell. In the second, the Homesteader’s tallied two goals back to back with goals from Jake Wilkins and Brice Parks. Garcia’s got with one goal before the intermission with a goal from Kevin Kean. Making it 3-2, Homestead. The third period went down to the wire. First, after receiving the puck from Eric Dearborn, Garcia’s Reid McDonald tied the game 3-3 at the 6:20 mark. Garcia’s Chris Harrington got the go-ahead goal at 3:01. Then, Homestead’s Powell Gallaher tied the contest with 1:46 remaining. It’s not over yet. With :48 ticks left on the clock, Ghan got the game winner unassisted. For a team that has lost a couple close games, this was a big victory. Reid McDonald related later, “It was a wild one!” Homestead’s net minder, Adam Vogel made 15 saves on 20 shots. At the other end of the rink, Kevin Rodgers made 16 saves on 20 shots.
Pizza Man vs. Jalapenos
Jalapenos maintains a strong grip on first place with 26 points and Pizza Man in second place with 17 points. Jalapenos had a strong showing on Wednesday evening’s second game, defeating Pizza Man 7-1. Strong goaltending by Jalapeno’s Seth Kollman helped in the win by stopping 25 of 26 shots. Pizza Man’s net minder, Gary Hanson made 10 saves on 17 shots. At the end of the first period, it was 1-0 after Jalapeno’s Pete McEnaney scored with the help from Ben Russell. Three second period goals were scored by Jalapenos. First a power play goal by Buck Wicks. Then, Billy Bagron and Dustin Smith, making the score 4-0. The next three goals were scored by Jalapenos. Russell netted back to back goals to lead off the period. Followed by Andre Wright with a helper credited to Kenny Hood. As time was winding down, Pizza Man avoided a shutout when Brett Siegel scored unassisted at 2:45. Referees whistled the teams for five penalties. Three assessed to Pizza Man and two to Jalapenos.
