It’s WEEK FIFTEEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AA recap.
Play It Again Sports vs. Eagle River Alehouse
Fourth place Play It Again (5-8-2) knocked off division leader, ER Alehouse (9-4-2) 2-1 on Sunday, January 14, at the MAC during AA Division hockey play. Garrett Riley scored the only goal unassisted in the first period for the Alehouse. Play It Again’s Ryan McCormick made the score sheet in a couple places. He made two trips to the penalty box and tied the game with a goal in the second period. Tim Plucinski from play It Again scored the game winner also in the second unassisted. For the goaltenders, Play It Again’s Tony Boneta made 23 saves on 24 shots. Mike Allen from the Alehouse made 14 saves on 16 shots.
OMR Brewing vs. Stellar Designs
The fourth and fifth place teams battled it out in the second game on Sunday. OMR came away with the win 4-1 to remain in fifth. Four different players from OMR scored. Jarrod Wittenauer scored the lone first period goal for OMR. The remaining goals were scored in the second. First by Rob Zemcik, followed by Stanley Shepard, and Jason Novotny. Alfonzo Guzman got the playmaker, assisting on three of the four goals for OMR. Ty Johnston scored the lone goal for Stellar, also in the second. Brian Alfrink for OMR made 14 saves on 15 shots and Tony Bonetta for Stellar made 27 saves on 31 shots. Neither team was whistled for any penalties.
Cub’s Painting vs. Shine’s Sushi
The second place Cubbies (9-2-4) got a little breathing room by adding two points over third place Shine’s (9-6-0) with a 2-1 win. Going into the game, the Cubbies had only a two-point advantage over Shine’s. The Cubbies scored both their goals in the first period. Greg Jernstrom started things off followed by Ryan Johnson. After a scoreless second period, Shine’s got on the board with an unassisted goal from Nicholas Bennett. But it wasn’t enough as the Cubbies held on for the win. Cub’s netminder Patrick Zmuda made 15 saves on 16 shots and at the other end of the rink, Nick Koliznicoff made 17 saves on 19 shots for Shine’s.
