Helping Through The Year

Lions Helping Hungry Children

We just finished our holiday meals. The new year is upon us. As Lions we are challenged to feed the hungry children of the world.

The mythical birthplace place of Santa Claus is Rovaniemi in Finland.  The idea of giving gifts to children in need — well this is not at all mythical.   Anyone of us can be Santa Claus to the millions of children who sleep hungry every day.  While Santa Claus makes an appearance just once a year, we can perform his role every day.

We all can agree that this time of year people are happier.  Let us make the world a permanently happier place by filling the stomachs of every child around the world.  Give of your time and money so that others may have that warm meal in their stomachs. Think about what would make our community a better place for those less fortunate.

You, like me, until I became Lion, maybe did not know how many families struggle in our communities.

Many children only eat at school…what happens when they are not in school….they go hungry.  You might be shocked to learn it is a neighbor.  Our answer…you see a need you challenge Lions to serve.

Over the last month your four local Lions clubs have been very busy getting food baskets out to local elementary schools for families in need, service community dinners free to the public along with our Tree of Giving serving 168 children. This is a community wide month of service with help from all of you in making a happier time for all.

For more information on becoming a lion or our projects, visit www.lionsclubs.org, www.sleepingladylions.org, www.eagleriverlions.com, www.chugiaklions.com or call Lion Karen 242-1129
