It’s WEEK TEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AAA recap.
Pizza Man vs. Homesteaders
Homesteaders got on the board first with a wrap around unassisted goal by Brice Parks. Pizza Man’s Max Daughtery, showed off some of his skill with a nifty backhander that resulted in a goal, with a nice pass from James Hester to tie the game 1-1. Daughtery and Hester struck again six minutes later with a wrister from the top of the left circle to put Pizza Man up by a goal at the end of the period. A scramble in front of the Homesteaders net resulted in the puck squirting loose right on Pizza Man’s Michael McCurtain’s stick which resulted in a goal. McCurtain skated back to bench and was overheard saying, “Got lucky on that one!” Later in the second, Pizza Man’s Brandon Hall knocked in a rebound for a goal making it 4-1. With 3:11 remaining in the second, Homesteaders Matthew Viens punched in a rebound for a goal. The Homesteaders showed some frustration in the third period, getting whistled for three penalties. Homesteaders goaltender, Adam Vogal, turned away two point blank shots during a 5 on 3 power play. Vogal got a little help from the goal cage as a rocket of a wrister clanked off the post and skidded to the side boards. The Homesteaders were able to hold off the attacking Pizza Man squad but took the loss 4-2, final.
Garcia’s Cantina vs. Jalapenos
Jalapenos dominated Garcia’s and showed why they are in first place with a record of 9-1-0. Six different players from Jalapenos scored and defeated Garcia’s 8-3 on Wednesday’s second game of the evening. Four first period goals by Jalapenos set the tone for the rest of the night. Scoring in the first was Robert Monfore, Eric Jensen, Seth Kollman and Dylan Kingrea. Garcia’s showing they were not going to roll over got the second started with a goal from Mike Viens. Another Garcia’s goal was scored by Bill McCormick bringing the game closer. As the second was winding down, Jalapenos Billy Bagron made the score 5-2. Still in the fight, at 14:48 Garcia’s Chris Harrington scored unassisted to bring the game within two. The last five minutes proved deadly for Garcia’s as Jalapenos scored three times. First Kenny Hood, followed by Kollman who netted his second goal of the night, and finally, Jensen got his second goal making the final score, 8-3 Jalapenos. Both teams were whistled for three penalties.
