It’s WEEK ELEVEN of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AA recap.
Play It Again Sports vs. OMR Brewing
Play it Again (4-7-0) added two points to their stats with a 4-3 win over OMR (3-6-2) on Sunday 12-17-17. Play It Again jumped off to a good start scoring three first period goals. First goal came shortly after the drop of the puck at 16:06, unassisted, by John McCormick. About four minutes later, Todd Blackley with help from Tim Plucinski added to the tally. With McCormick in the penalty box on a roughing penalty, OMR’s Michael Tencza notched a power play goal. The first period ended shortly after a goal from Play It Again’s Kevin Hao making the score 3-1. OMR got within a goal in the second with another unassisted power play goal coming from David Roach. Play It Again kept up the pressure when Nikoli Petrov put another goal on the board ending the period 4-2. Roach scored his second goal of the night in the third period with help from Alfonzo Guzman, making the final score 4-3. Play It Again was whistled for four penalties and OMR for two. Shots on goal were dead even for both goaltenders, each facing 21 shots.
Stellar Designs vs. Cub’s Painting
In the second game of the night, first place Cub’s Painting (8-1-2) defeated fifth place Stellar Designs (2-7-2) with a final score of 3-2. After two scoreless periods, the game heated up with both teams trading goals in the third. Cub’s Ryan Ciolkosz got the scoring started with a goal at 15:10. Two minutes later, Stellar’s Kevin Blanchette tied the score at 1-1. The Cubbies came right back a minute later when Nate Curnow scored unassisted. Back to Stellar, Robert McComick’s goal tied the game 2-2. But it was Cubbies Garret Staudinger that would get the game winner with 1:39 remaining. Stellar’s netminder, Chris Harrington faced 24 shots and Cub’s goalie, Patrick Zmuda faced 19. A total of four penalties were whistled, three on the Cubs and one on Stellar.
Shines Sushi vs. Eagle River Alehouse
In the late game, Shines (6-5-0) shutout the Alehouse (6-3-2) 2-0 for the win. Shines goaltender, Joey Lindquist got the shutout win making 38 saves for the night. Alehouse netminder, Mike Allen faced 17 shots. The first goal for Shines came at 3:32 of the second period when Doug Keller assisted Charles Bahn. The second goal for Shines was scored in the third period when Nicholas Bennett found the back of the net with the help coming from Lucas Takao. Referees for the evening, Joe Stallone and Robert Johnson called three minor penalties during the game. Two on Shines and one on the Alehouse.
