It’s WEEK FIVE of the Eagle River Hockey League, and this is the AA recap.
Cub’s Painting vs. Shines Sushi
The early contest was Cub’s Painting vs. Shines Sushi. Cub’s playing with only two forward lines and two defensive lines got on the board at 15:56 of the first period with a goal by James Kostka and an assist from Zach Meehan. With Cub’s Ryan Ciolkosz in the box for checking, Shines’ forward, Nicholas Bennett, streamed up the boards on a breakaway and snapped a wicked wrister that clanked off the post and to the sideboards. That’s as close as Shines got in the first period. The second period Shines net minder, Neff Anastasio, made some excellent saves – especially when Shines forward Lucas Takao was in the penalty box for checking. Shines killed the penalty and the second period was scoreless. The third period heated up when Kostka got his second goal of the night after receiving a threaded pass through traffic by Jordan Shannon. A minute later, Shines Mike Watson lit the lamp with the assist going to Doug Keller. In the final minute, Shines pulled goalie Neff Anastasio for the extra attacker, to no avail. Cub’s held on to win 2-1.
Play it Again Sports vs. Eagle River Alehouse
The second game of the evening was Play It Again Sports vs. Eagle River Alehouse. Alehouse lead the game in scoring and penalty minutes. First goal was scored at 3:45 in the first period by Dan Watts with the helper from Karl Greninger. Alehouse Garrett Riley was whistled in the first for hooking as was Play it Again’s Tim Plucinski. The second period was scoreless with Alehouse’s Grininger in the box for hooking. In the third period Watts got his second goal and four minutes later Adam Purdy put one in the back of the net. Alehouse had three penalties for six minutes and Play it Again had two penalties for four minutes. Alehouse’s net minder, Mike Allen got the shutout win, 3-0.
OMR Brewing vs. Stellar Designs
In the final game, it was ORM Brewing vs. Stellar Designs. It was a big night for OMR, their first victory of the season, winning 4-2. OMR’s Trevor Sapp brought the heat with a goal in the first minute, then went on to get an assist on OMR’s second goal by David Roch. David Kosinski scored for Stellar with the helper going to Kurby Olmstead. As time was winding down in the second, Roch with :03 left found the back of the net with help from Michael Tencza. Stellar led off the third with a goal from Olmstead and the assist going to Blasé Andromeda-Focht. OMR was still not finished, with :01 on the clock, Roch got his third goal and a hat trick making the final 4-2 for OMR.
