Chugiak Mustangs scored early and often against the Service Cougars at the quarter-final game on Friday night with a final score of 63-27
The Mustangs hosted the Service Cougars on a chilly Friday night in front of a packed Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium. The game started fast for the Mustangs after the Cougars went three-and-out on their first possession and were forced to punt.
Derryk Snell, from deep in the Mustang end received the punt, then zigged and zagged his way through the Cougar defense and took it all the way for a touchdown, much to the delight of the Mustang faithful. From then on, the tone of the game was set, and the Mustangs never looked back.
As potent as the Mustang offense was, the first half saw their defense with some costly mistakes. The defense gave up 27 points to the Cougars who were determined not to go down easily.
Mustang quarterback Hunter Harr and the offense pounded the Cougars both in the air and on the ground racking up 42 points in the first half. Touchdowns came fast and furious from Austin Harr, Ty Carlos, Derryk Snell, Ramal Maad and Harr himself.
Better Defense in the Second Half
When the Mustangs returned to the field following the halftime break, it was apparent the defense was more focused. The second half was all Mustangs. At 8:57 of the third quarter, Austin Harr made it 48-27. Two more touchdowns came from Ty Huffer, and with 2.7 seconds remaining in the third, Ramal Maad got his second touchdown of the night making it 63-27 following an interception by Mustang Ace Chapple.
