Affordable gear and supporting Anchorage’s world-class trails, too? The annual NSAA Ski Swap is a community win-win! The always bustling consignment sale is open to the public and the perfect opportunity for all levels of outdoor enthusiasts (beginners and advanced, families and individuals) to buy and sell new and used outdoor gear (not just skis!) at great prices. Proceeds support NSAA’s work in maintaining and sustaining Anchorage’s trail system. Swap participants must check in gear online, print and attach tags, then drop off items from 6-8 p.m. Friday or 11-1 p.m. Sunday. Unsold gear must be picked up from 5-7 p.m. Sunday. Find more information and gear registration at www.anchoragenordicski.com/events/nsaa-ski-swap/.
WHAT: 2017 Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage’s Season Kickoff
WHEN: 2:30-6 p.m. Sunday, November 5
WHERE: Kincaid Park chalet
One week after the Ski Swap, NSAA hosts its Season Kickoff celebration, which is highlighted this year by a winter expo of local winter outdoor programs and an opportunity to meet Alaska’s Olympic and World Cup athletes Kikkan Randall, Sadie Bjornsen, Erik Bjornsen, Rosie Brennan and Scott Patterson. The annual event is also a great occasion to renew NSAA memberships, learn about and register for skiing programs, mingle, bid on auction items, enjoy a cold beverage and win awesome door prizes. An exclusive NSAA blend of Kaladi Brothers Coffee will also be provided to top donors and available for sale. A potluck dinner starts at 4 p.m. and a presentation of NSAA programs, board elections and annual meeting follows at 5 p.m. More event information is available at www.anchoragenordicski.com/events/annual-celebration/.
For more than 50 years, NSAA has promoted healthy lifestyles and all forms of Nordic skiing, as well as introduced Alaskans to cross-country skiing through learn-to-ski programs, ski races and events. NSAA also grooms and maintains more than 150 kilometers of trails in the Anchorage area. Learn more about NSAA at www.anchoragenordicski.com.
