Friday June 9
6:10 A. M. – Traffic Collision (16000 Block of S Birchwood Loop)
A brown bear came running out of the woods and was struck as he attempted to cross the road. The driver attempted to avoid the bear but was unable to. The driver was uninjured.
The bear was still alive when the first officer arrived but died on its own before the officer was able to dispatch it. The highway was closed for six minutes while officers were checking on the bear which was in the middle of the road. Charity arrived and picked up the carcass.
Saturday June 10
9:28 P. M. – Fraud (11100 Block of Placer)
The victim sold his 1992 Jeep Cherokee to another citizen. After the buyer left with the vehicle, the victim discovered that $100 of the cash used to pay for the vehicle was fake. The buyer did not return any of the victim’s calls. This case is still under investigation.
Sunday June 11
7:41 A. M. – Burglary (18600 Block of Stillwater Dr.)
Entry was made into the back of a residence that is currently under construction; several items were stolen. The homeowners were out of town when the crime occurred.
8:00 P. M. – Theft/Larceny (18400 Block of Jude Island)
A pistol and iPod were stolen from inside an unlocked vehicle parked in the owner’s driveway overnight.
8:17 P. M. – Assault (17000 Block of Easy St.)
An adult female was physically assaulted by her girlfriend while the two were arguing and in the process of breaking up. The officer contacted the victim but was unable to locate the suspect. This investigation is pending.
11:19 P. M. –  Eluding (18600 Block of Eagle River Rd.)
Officers responded to Walmart in regards to a shoplifting in progress; the suspect was reportedly leaving the parking lot on a motorcycle. As officers arrived they saw the motorcycle leaving the area. The officers attempted a traffic stop but the motorcycle went around the patrol cars and ran a red light. The motorcycle left the area at speeds estimated at over 100 mph. The officers did not pursue and this case is still under investigation.
Monday June 12
1:01 P. M. – Burglary (18800 Block of Andreanof Dr.)
During the night, while the homeowner was home and asleep, an unknown suspect entered the unlocked house and stole the homeowner’s wallet. The suspect subsequently made several fraudulent purchases with the credit cards that were inside the wallet.
Tuesday June 13
3:04 P. M. – Theft/Larceny (12000 Block of Business Blvd.)
A citizen turned in several boxes of brand new clothing which she had found. It appears the boxes had been stolen from homes after being delivered by the postal service. The Postal Inspector was contacted and this case is still under investigation.
Wednesday June 14
2:03 A. M. – Driving Under the Influence (12100 Block of Regency Dr.)
Police Dispatch received a call that an intoxicated woman had been instructed to leave the Homestead Lounge by employees after she became belligerent and began yelling at both staff and other patrons. After exiting the bar, the woman got into the driver’s seat of her vehicle and began blowing the horn. When officers arrived they found 25-year-old Bambi L. Jones of Eagle River sitting in the driver’s seat of a red Hyundai in the bar’s parking lot.
Officers escorted Bambi back into the bar so she could use the restroom. After they were all back outside, Bambi began flailing her arms and attempting to pull away from the officers. After placing her in handcuffs, Bambi refused to walk to the patrol car. Bambi attempted to kick the officers as they tried to put her in the police vehicle’s back seat. After being placed in full restraints, Bambi continued to thrash around for several minutes. During the second attempt to place Bambi in the back of the car, Bambi bit one of the officers.
Once they were at the jail Bambi refused to provide a breath sample. During the bail hearing Bambi became disruptive when the magistrate was attempting to give her instructions; Bambi kicked at the officers several more times.
Bambi was remanded at the Anchorage Jail. She was charged with Operating Under the Influence, Assault on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest by Use of Force, and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.
6:49 P. M. – Burglary (16800 Block of Riddell St.)
Sometime overnight a rifle was stolen from inside an unlocked residence. The house is currently under construction and no one is believed to have been at the home during the time of the burglary.
