Last year the ECHO News ran a story on my lively Beagle dog, “Parker,” who at the time was 15 years old.
Despite some health challenges, he was doing rather well. Recently, his melanoma cancer and congestive heart failure got the best of him, and Becky and I had to make the difficult decision to put him down.
I wanted to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sarah Brooks and others at Ravenwood Veterinary Clinic for everything they’ve done for our friend and companion over the years, who came to be known at the clinic as “Parker the Barker.”
Parker had a wonderful and adventuresome life with us.
For spelling lessons in a fourth-grade class at Birchwood ABC Elementary several years ago, I wrote a series of stories about “Barney the Brave-Hearted Beagle.” The tales chronicled the amazing exploits of the venerable canine, such as leading rescuers to a glacier crevasse that had trapped a grizzly bear and its cub.
Some of those stories were based on my own “Parker.” Perhaps someday I might resurrect them in his name. Perhaps “Parker’s” final chapters are yet to be written.
