The Eagle River High School wrestling team took ninth place out of 13 teams competing on Nov. 5 at the Colony Wrestling Invitations Tournament held at Colony High School in Palmer.
Eagle River’s Grant Barkhurst and Grant Burningham took third place in their respective weight divisions: 145 and 138. Both scored 19 team points for their respective placings.
Barkhurst won his first round by fall defeating Ben Lucia of Glacier View High School with the fall occurring at 1:10 minute. He won his second round by fall against Rafael Rivera of West Anchorage High School with the fall at 2:51. Barkhurst won his quarterfinal by fall over Jackson Peters of Colony High School with the fall occurring at 3:30. In the semifinal, Barkhurst lost by fall to Weston Martin of South Anchorage High School at the 1:15-minute mark. In the third place match for the 145-pound division, Barkhurst won by decision over Sam Nolan of Thunder Mountain.
Burningham received a bye in his first round. In the second round for his weight division, Burningham won by fall defeating Gerritt Schaafsma from Colony High School with the fall occurring at 4:54 minutes. In the quarterfinal, Burningham defeated Kyrell De La Rosa of Thunder Mountain by fall at 1:28 minutes. In the semifinal, Burningham was defeated by Rylan Randolph-Oxholm of Dimond High School by decision. In his third place match for the 138-pound division, Burningham won by injury default over Nathan Reeves of Palmer High School.

Michael Caywood, 170-pound division, wrestled against Cody Gamble of Colony High School who won in sudden victory with one point over Caywood.
Josh Luff, 123-pound division, won with a fall at 2:38 minutes defeating Brice Lestenkof-Chapman of Colony High School that earned Luff fifth place.
Josh Tripp, 160-pound division, won by forfeit against Benjamin Hagar of Colony High School and earned seventh place.
Alec Wolfert, 120-pound division, won 7-3 over Jeremy Briones of Bartlett High School earning a fifth place.
